“new old stock”

  • Melanie BIisping

Melanie Bisping’s work is characterized by a conceptual approach and architectural alterations that subtly question our perception of reality as we know it. A student of Ayşe Erkmen, she recently won, among 56 students from 24 art academies, the first prize in the federal competition “Art Students Display Their Works” at Bundeskunsthalle Bonn for her artist book “World Problems”. On 974 pages, the book lists all existing problems of society as collected by the Union of International Associations alphabetically from A to Z.

For her exhibition at Kunsthal 44 Møen, she developed a site-specific intervention in the old stable, where from the adjunct buildings new construction material grows in, taking over parts of the old structure and emphasizing the tension between old and new, big and small, the historical and the contemporary, that marks the immediate surrounding of the Kunsthal, a place that is in constant development and extension since it opened in 2008.

Melanie Bisping (born 1985 in Rheda-Wiedenbrück lives in Münster) recently had a solo exhibition at Homework Gallery, Münster (2015). Her work was shown at Kunstakademie Münster; Bundeskunsthalle Bonn (2015); Kunstverein Gelsenkirchen; temporary exhibition space, Berlin; Galerie Evelyn Drewes, Hamburg (2014); Tanas, Berlin; WGZ Bank, Düsseldorf (2013), Reset Festival, Münster; and NRW Bank, Münster (2012).
